honeysuckly flower | aka: jin yin hua
🌿 Over 150 species of honeysuckle belong to the Caprifoliaceae family, genus lonicera. The Japanese honeysuckle is utilized in traditional Chinese medicine.
🌿 In Chinese herbology it is cold and sweet with an airy ambiance that affects the upper body. It is used to resolve toxicity, disperse pathogenic heat, and cool the blood.

 

siler root | aka: fang feng
🌿 Grown in the north of China and included in approximately 300 traditional Chinese medicine formulas.
🌿 Known for anti-inflammatory, antipathogen, and anti-alergen effects, as well as containing volatile oil, mannitol, phenols, polysaccharides, coumarins, and b-sitosterol.
🌿 From a traditional Chinese medicine perspective, it releases the exterior and expels internal and external wind, and addresses wind-cold symptoms of headache, chills, and body aches.

bai-zhu atractylodes | aka: bai zhu
🌿 Held in high esteem and naturally grown in the southeastern provinces of China for thousands of years. As the saying goes, “ren shen in the north and bai zhu in the south”, it is on equal footing with ginseng (ren shen).
🌿 Belonging to the sunflower family, it possesses a strong ability to tonify a persons qi, aiding in strengthening the immune system. additionally in t.c.m. it dries damp, promotes water metabolism, and is used to treat colds, flus, and fevers.

astragalus root | aka: huang qi
🌿 First documented in the divine husbandman’s classic of the materia medica, affiliated with legendary pharmacologist shen nong; a centuries old book on agriculture and medicinal plants.
🌿 Used as an adaptogen herb; supports the immune system, alleviates stress, and is known to increase energy levels.
🌿 Incorporated in different therapeutic remedies globally for common cold, upper respiratory infections, fibromyalgia, diabetes, heart disease, and general weakness.

kiwi fruit | aka: chinese gooseberry
🌿 Originally grown wild in china and referred to as chinese goosberry, it got its common name when first introduced to new zealand in 1904, named after the new zealand national bird!
 🌿 High in vitamin c, choline, lutein, and zeaxanthin; they not only boost the immune system but help remove unstable molecules known as free radicals.

dog rose fruit | aka: jin ying zi
🌿 Also known as rosehip, native to the western hemisphere, and are technically the fruit of the rose, referred to as the rose haw. They contain a high concentration of vitamin c that helps the immune system fight of pesky invaders and unruly cells.
🌿 Among its many health benefits it is high in antioxidant compounds like polyphenols, carotenoids, and galactolipids that have anti-inflammatory effects. as well as pectin that acts as a prebiotic.

jujube fruit | aka: da zao
🌿 Native to China, the jujube tree produces the Chinese date. this tree thrives in warm weather and can withstand temperatures as low as 20 degrees. When ripe these red-hued dates are harvested and dried in the sun.
🌿 According to shen nong’s materia medica it is a yang energy herb that benefits the spleen and stomach, reinforces energy, and nourishes the blood.
🌿 Da zao are high in vitamin c, minerals, fiber, and aids in immunity. some studies suggest they may also contain chemicals that act like antioxidants, reducing swelling and inflammation.

 

reishi mushroom | aka: ling zhi

🌿 Native to Europe, Asia, and north America, this “mushroom of immorality” has been around for thousands of years, and utilized in traditional Chinese medicine. It is also written in texts and referred to as ganoderma.

🌿 Known as the tonic of emperors, it boosts the immune system, has a positive effect on white blood cells, and cancer-fighting properties.
🌿 Contains triterpenoids, polysaccharides, and peptidoglycans that are credited with helping you feel your best and keeping you healthy.
