oregon grape root  | aka: berberis aquifolium
🌿 A flowering plant that belongs to the berberidaceae (barberry) family. It contains the compound berberine known for killing parasites and having anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.
🌿 A reputation for cleansing and clarifying, with laxative properties that also ease irritable bowel syndrome and general stomach irritation.

 

senna leaf | aka: fan xie ye
🌿 First appeared in the great compendium of pharmacology, and nicknamed “the purging leaf”. In traditional Chinese medicine, it promotes the movement of qi, moistens dryness, and drains downward, guiding stagnant heat accumulations out of the intestines.
🌿 Classified as a stimulant laxative, it has a strong contraindication for use if pregnant, a history of heavy bleeding, or breastfeeding because it can be excreted in breast milk.

tangerine rind  | aka: chen pi
🌿 In traditional Chinese medicine it regulates qi, harmonizes the middle jiao (your midsection), dries damp, dissolves phlegm, and stops cough.
🌿 Tangerine peel compounds have been found to lower cholesterol and trigger liver detoxification. Western medicinal uses include anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antiseptic, sedative, expectorant, and as a diuretic.

dandelion plant  | aka: pu gong ying
🌿 A true diamond in the rough! Belonging to the asteraceae family, dandelion translates to “lion’s tooth” in french and is closely related to chicory root. It is rich in vitamins k, a, c, and b, calcium, magnesium, manganese, selenium, zinc, and iron.
🌿 It is used in t.c.m. to cool heat, resolve toxicity, directs and drains downward, reduces abscesses, thus disperses qi stagnation and internal clumping. It can also be used internally and externally and is often used to treat skin conditions.

hawthorn berry  | aka: shan zha
🌿 Belonging to the Rosaceae family, hawthorn berry has sweet, sour, and slightly warm properties, and tons of medicinal uses!
 🌿 In t.c.m. (traditional Chinese medicine) it invigorates blood flow, reduces food stagnation and helps harmonize diarrhea and dysentery. It is referred to as Sansa in Korea and Japan.

🌿 It is packed with flavonoids, organic acids, and is used to treat tapeworms, intestinal infections, abdominal pain, post-partum blood stasis, hypertension, and supports a healthy cardiovascular function.

cayenne pepper  | aka: capsicum
🌿 Belonging to the Rosaceae family, hawthorn berry has sweet, sour, and slightly warm properties, and tons of medicinal uses. In Korea and Japan, it is known as sansa.
🌿 In t.c.m. (traditional Chinese medicine) it invigorates blood flow, reduces food stagnation and helps harmonize diarrhea and dysentery.

🌿It is packed with flavonoids, organic acids, and is used to treat tapeworms, bloating, intestinal infections, abdominal pain, post-partum blood stasis, and hypertension.

 

white mulberry fruit  | aka: sang shen
🌿 In Chinese medicine mulberry fruit tonifies the blood, nourishes yin, and engenders body fluids. They are prescribed or included in formulas for issues such as insomnia, constipation, tinnitus, and dizziness.

🌿 An ancient tree that contains iron, vitamins c, e, and k, polyphenols, anthocyanins, antioxidants, and also anti-inflammatory properties. The bark, leaves, and fruit of the mulberry tree are all used as herbal medicine and serve different functions.

 

licorice root  | aka: gan cao
🌿 Is documented in shen nong’s divine husbandman’s materia medica and li shi zhen’s compendium of materia medica, with a use spanning 2,000 years. It has a reputation in traditional Chinese medicine of inhibiting the toxicity of over 70 minerals and approximately 1200 kinds of grass and trees.

🌿 Western uses include anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, and antacid. It has approximately 300 different compounds, including flavonoids that help alleviate nausea and stomach aches.

🌿In t.c.m. it is used as a harmonizer that moderates the effects of other herbs. It enters all 12 meridians of the body, tonifies the spleen, augments the qi, and alleviates spasms and pain.
