chamomile flower  | aka: matricaria recutita
🌿 Known as a “cure all”, it aids in sleep, soothes digestion, and promotes relaxation of the body and mind. From a western medicine perspective, it is an adaptogen, analgesic, antispasmodic, and sedative.
🌿 From a Chinese medicine perspective its actions are to move qi, soothe pain, tonify the liver, strengthen the stomach, clear heat, and calm the shen (mind).
🌿 Known to help ease emotional upset, anxiety, headaches, poor appetite, and cramps. It is also used in formulas to aid in alleviating chills and fever, menstrual cramps, insomnia, and palpitations.

 

lavender flower  | aka: lavendin
🌿 Belongs to the lamiaceae family, and is predominantly grown in the north of Africa and mountains in the Mediterranean.
🌿 The 39 species of lavender have made homes around the world, which is why there are a plethora of names including English lavender and Spanish lavender.

🌿 Commonly used to alleviate symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia, and headaches. It also aids in calming digestive issues such as vomiting, nausea, gas, and bloat.
 

california poppy  | aka: eschscholzia californica
🌿 The wildflower of the sun, and state flower of california, with a reputation for internal and external uses. A powerful herb for calming the mind, supporting a restful sleep, alleviating aches and pains, headaches, and stomach aches.
🌿 Can be found as a tincture as well to use as a mild sedative and analgesic, but don’t worry, it has no opiate effects like its distant cousin herb, the opium poppy (papaver somniferum). The California poppy contains no opiates and is non-addictive.

passion flower  | aka: passiflora incarnata
🌿 Also called apricot vine, it has been used as a tea for centuries. In addition to its many internal uses, it is used externally for treating hemorrhoids, burns, and swelling.
🌿 Has a reputation for reducing anxiety and tension, balancing sleep issues, and easing menopause symptoms. It is also used to curb withdrawal symptoms from any kind of drug addiction, as well as ease muscle spasms.

lemon balm  | aka: melissa officinalis
🌿 Also known as bee balm, has a reputation for alleviating restlessness, calming the nerves, rebalancing melancholy, and alleviating anxiety. It is also used in ayurvedic medicine to balance the mood and calm palpitations.
 🌿 In ancient azerbaijani folk medicine they called for a bath in lemon balm to aid in heart health and flourishing skin. From a western perspective, it is known to have antispasmodic, antibacterial, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory effects.

kava  | aka: yangona
🌿 Used by pacific islanders for hundreds of years, the Polynesian word “awa” is the root word of kava, meaning “bitter”, a reference to kava’s taste. From a Chinese medicine perspective, it calms the shen, and nourishes the heart, addressing insomnia, anxiety, and palpitations.
🌿 It calms the nerves and aids in relaxation. It can be highly sedative in high doses creating a numbing effect throughout the body and drowsiness (don’t worry our amounts are small!)
🌿 Also known as piper methysticum, it has also been used by medical professionals to aid in withdrawal from benzodiazepine drugs, topically to treat leprosy to promote the healing of wounds, and as a pain killer.
